Delivering Precision and Excellence at Metro West

In 2022, Shotcrete Australia was awarded the contract for the ground retention works at the Sydney Metro West Station Boxes by our partners, Acciona/Ferrovial Joint Venture, and Transport for NSW. The Sydney Metro West project is a new 24-kilometre underground metro railway that will double rail capacity between Parramatta and the Sydney CBD, transforming Sydney for generations to come.

This once-in-a-century infrastructure investment will provide fast, reliable, turn-up-and-go metro services with fully accessible stations, link new communities to rail services, and support employment growth and housing supply. The various station locations include Westmead, Parramatta, Sydney Olympic Park, North Strathfield, Burwood North, Five Dock, The Bays, Pyrmont, and Hunter Street in the Sydney CBD.

Shotcrete Australia was proud to play a significant role in the Sydney Olympic Park, North Strathfield, Burwood North, Five Dock, and The Bays. Our scope of works on these projects included a mix of permanent and temporary anchors, rock bolts, steel installation, and shotcrete work. Additionally, we collaborated closely with the AF/JV tunnel team to provide tunnel and portal retention works, significantly contributing to the successful launch and continuation of tunnel boring works through the station boxes. Throughout these projects, Shotcrete Australia drilled and installed thousands of anchors and rock bolts and sprayed thousands of cubic metres of shotcrete and fibrecrete.

All these projects were delivered on time and within budget for our client, with each demanding deadline successfully met and surpassed by Shotcrete Australia. The retention and shoring of many of the station boxes were completed in record time by our team, particularly the flagship station boxes at The Bays and Sydney Olympic Park, which garnered significant attention from Transport for NSW and other project partners.

Shotcrete Australia was honoured to play a comprehensive role in this historic project, which will enhance and revolutionise rail infrastructure for Sydneysiders for generations to come. The Sydney Metro West project is targeting an opening date of 2032.
