In 2024, Shotcrete Australia was awarded the contract for ground retention works as part of the Warringah Freeway Upgrade by Transport for NSW and by the Principal Contractor – which is a joint venture between CPB Contractors and Downer EDI Works. The Warringah Freeway Upgrade is a critical infrastructure project that spans 4 km between Milsons Point and Naremburn, Sydney.
The project is part of the larger Western Harbour Tunnel initiative, aimed at improving traffic flow and connections across Sydney’s northern suburbs and the broader motorway network. The goal is to alleviate congestion on key routes such as the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Harbour Tunnel while improving overall transport efficiency and safety.
Shotcrete Australia is proud to be involved in delivering key works that will support future infrastructure such as the Western Harbour Tunnel, connecting commuters more seamlessly to Sydney’s motorways. Our scope of work includes several types of anchors, rock bolts and soil nail installations along with slope stabilisation, weathering protection and structural shotcrete works.
In collaboration with Transports and CPBD/JVs incredible on-site teams, Shotcrete Australia has contributed to vital installations and technical ground retentions systems – all delivered in an incredibly challenging logistic environment all while keeping safety, productivity, and the very highest attention to detail at the very forefront of our approach.
This flagship project is one of our most significant contracts, and we are committed to delivering exceptional results for our valued client. We look forward to continuing our work in the coming months and years, ensuring the successful and timely completion of our ground retention scope. Once completed, this project will enhance traffic flow, reduce congestion, and become a cornerstone of Sydney’s transport network, benefiting commuters for decades to come. At Shotcrete Australia, we are proud to play a significant role in bringing this vital piece of infrastructure to life. The Warringah Freeway Upgrade is expected to be completed by 2026.
